Located less than 20 miles from New York City in Bayside, CUNY Queensborough Community College is a large institution in a city setting. While enrolled in the massage therapy program, you will learn about biological sciences as well as holistic health. Other courses include psychology, foundations of therapeutic massage, composition, neurophysiology and electives. In order to gain medical clearance for the program, you must have either a nurse practitioner or physician complete a massage student medical form. Additionally, your clearance has to be updated every semester. Advanced students have the opportunity to work in the school's massage clinic under the supervision of a licensed massage therapist. After earning a degree, you will be prepared to sit for your licensing exam.

Massage Therapy Bachelor's Degree Programs in New York City

New York College of Health Professions

The New York College of Health Professions offers two bachelor's degrees. The upper division program can be completed in five trimesters and is open to graduates of this school or another accredited school's associate's degree program in massage therapy. The upper division bachelor's degree program is also open to the school's acupuncture, Oriental medicine and holistic nursing continuing education students.

The 10-trimester bachelor's degree program is intended for incoming freshmen who wish to earn a 4-year degree. In this track, your coursework will consist of both the associate's degree course of study and the upper division course of study, a combined 120 credits. After earning 60 credits, you'll be eligible to sit for the New York State Licensing exam while still earning your bachelor's degree. Both programs teach students advanced bodywork modalities, including Shiatsu, Tui Na and Ayurvedic therapy. Other coursework includes diagnostic methods, clinical analysis, Western nutrition and Thai massage. Students must also take elective courses before graduating.
