In order to pursue paramedic training, one must complete training to qualify as a certified emergency medical technician (EMT). Some paramedic training programs are designed for current EMTs seeking to advance their careers and other programs include EMT and paramedical training over a longer period of time. El Camino College

El Camino College (ECC) administers this certificate program in conjunction with the county health services department's Paramedic Training Institute (PTI). The school recommends taking a preparatory class before beginning the program's didactic coursework, although it's not required. In addition to taking lecture courses at PTI, you'll spend time at area hospitals and complete an internship with a fire station.
