What You Need to Know

A number of Texas-based colleges and universities offer an associate's degree that would prepare you to work as an ultrasound technician. These programs require you to take general education and ultrasound-specific courses. Many associate's programs have substantial admissions requirements, such as background checks and placement tests. Some of these programs are specifically designed for healthcare professionals, so you'll need to be a certified nurse aide or a licensed vocational nurse prior to entry. You'll take both didactic and clinical classes for five or six semesters to complete your associate's program.

Enhanced certificates are also available, which could require between three months and three semesters to complete. To qualify for enrollment, you may need to be currently enrolled in an associate's program or you need to hold an associate's degree.
