Aspiring massage therapists have many different educational opportunities available to them and can find programs at community colleges, academies and for-profit institutes. Most well-known programs are approved by the American Massage Therapy Association and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Requirements to Become a Massage Therapist

Massage therapists are trained to work the soft-tissue muscle of a client's body in order to relieve pain, reduce stress and improve circulation. As of 2015, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 45 U.S. states impose some regulation on professional massage therapists, up to and including requiring them to receive licensure or certification. Requirements vary by state, but most demand that aspiring massage therapists complete an approved training program and pass either a state or national exam. Most massage therapy programs take between 500 and 1,000 hours to complete and are offered at community colleges, vocational institutions and other types of schools. National Holistic Institute

National Holistic Institute is a college of massage therapy in Emeryville, California. Central Oregon Community College

Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon, offers a two-year degree program in massage therapy. Upon completion of studies, the graduate will learn an Associate of Applied Science in Massage Therapy. Central Oregon community college also offers one-year and two-year certificate programs in the subject.
