Board certification in audiology is also available from the American Board of Audiology (ABA). Continue reading for more information about these certification options. American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Audiology Certification

At present, ASHA requires that applicants have a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) or a Doctor of Science (Sc.D.), a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) or a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) with courses in audiology. The coursework within the degree program must provide you with treatment, evaluation, identification, prevention and practice foundations as outlined by ASHA.

You must also complete a full-time clinical practicum under supervision for 1,820 hours. Additionally, you must achieve at least a 600 on the Praxis exams in Audiology overseen by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Certification is valid for three years, and in order to retain certification, you must complete 30 hours of professional development in three years.

American Board of Audiology (ABA)

If you're looking to be board certified in audiology, you must have a Ph.D. degree in audiology from an accredited program. If your graduate degree is not in audiology, you must take specific required courses and fulfill a 375-hour clinical practicum supervised by an audiologist who is board certified. To become certified, you must also be registered or licensed if required by jurisdiction where you live.

If your state doesn't require licensure, then you must submit proof of completion of at least 2000 hours (within a 3-year period) of professional, mentored practice. Everyone must pass the national exam in audiology. Board certification is good for three years. In order to renew certification, you must complete 60 hours of continuing education courses.
