What You Need to Know

You could study for one to 1.5 years to earn a paramedic certificate and be prepared for the certification. You could also take a little longer to earn a 2-year associate's degree in the field. The associate's program includes general education requirements.

Paramedic Certificate Programs in the New York City Area

CUNY LaGuardia Community College

The paramedic program at LaGuardia is offered through the school's Division of Adult and Continuing Education. Your curriculum includes 800 hours of classroom sessions and 600 hours of clinical education; you also obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. By completing an additional 24 credits, you can earn an associate's degree.

New York Methodist Hospital Center for Allied Health Education

Offered in both online and campus-based formats, the paramedic program at New York Methodist Hospital Center for Allied Health Education prepares you for the state certification exam. In addition, you can obtain Basic Life Support, Prehospital Trauma Life Support, ACLS and PALS certification. If you choose the online format, you complete 518 hours of lectures and labs in a virtual classroom and 572 hours of hands-on clinical education; you also complete two practical skills sessions and one final exam on campus. The campus-based format requires 565 hours of lectures and labs in addition to 572 hours of clinical practice.
