Which Schools Offer an Online Degree Program in Chinese?
Several schools in the United States offer Chinese studies programs. While many schools have distance education courses, it may be hard to find a degree or certificate that's offered completely online. This article examines a few online options for studying Chinese. Schools offering Communications degrees can also be found in these popular choices.
Learning Chinese Online
Some Chinese degree and certificate programs are designed for beginners, while others are designed to help advanced students improve their Chinese speaking skills. The goal of most of these programs is to teach students about the language and culture of China. Other programs exist to prepare students for work as Chinese language instructors. The following institutions are examples of opportunities to learn Chinese online.
University of Hawai'i at Manoa
The National Foreign Language Resource Center, located within the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, offers an online Chinese certificate program. This online, 5-course program is designed for students who already have a grasp of the Chinese language and culture and who are looking to expand their understanding of both through writing, listening and translation study.
Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of Modern Language at Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) doesn't have a specific online degree in Chinese language, but the university does offer online courses for both credit and non-credit. The courses are open to students at GT and to individuals not enrolled at GT who are currently enrolled in high school or at other colleges. If you aren't currently a student, but you have earned a degree in the past, you can also take courses in this program. Students not enrolled at GT are accepted into this program as space is available.
GT does have bachelor's degrees, certificates and minors available through their School of Modern Language with focuses in Chinese and other foreign languages. There may be online courses offered that can be applied to one of these degrees.
