According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of Web developers in general was expected to increase by 20% nationwide, or faster than average, from 2012-2022. Growth in ecommerce and the use of mobile apps and devices will have a positive influence on employment. Webmasters who know how to work with Adobe Photoshop, Flash and other digital tools, and who are well versed in the use of a variety of programming languages, may stand out in the job market. As of May 2013, the mean annual salary for a Web developer was $67,540 (www.bls.gov).

How Can I Become a Web Management Professional?

Undergraduate and Graduate Education

An associate degree program in information systems management or Web development can help you prepare for a job in website management. Core coursework can include the study of computer concepts, network fundamentals and operating systems. You may also receive raining in database design and the use of multimedia technologies. Many schools also offer bachelor's degrees in computer science or computer information systems that will allow you to specialize in Web management and website development or database administration. Master's degree programs in multimedia management or Web design are also available.

Continuing Education

Continuing education is essential, especially to stay up-to-date with the latest computer technology and website developments. Many companies offer advanced certification programs for employees who work in technology-related positions.
