Medical Aestheticians are licensed skincare professionals who assist patients with their appearance. These healthcare professionals focus on helping patients who are deformed or recovering from some type of trauma, such as surgery or an accident. Medical Aestheticians may work to restore and maintain the skin's appearance. They may also work verbally with patients to increase self-esteem.
Some of the skin procedures that a Medical Aesthetician might perform on a daily basis include laser hair removal, microdermabrasion and laser skin rejuvenation. They may also conduct medical facials or peels. Other duties include assisting those who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy and helping patients relax, reduce stress and feel comfortable after an accident or surgical procedure.
Medical Aestheticians work directly with patients. They also work with surgical teams, doctors and other medical professionals. Most MAs work in hospitals, clinics or private practices. Hours often vary depending on job title and location. Those who work for a private practice may work regular daytime hours with occasional nights and weekends.
