Are Programs Offering Targeted Study in Accessory Design Available?

Programs in accessory design are very rare, and you may find that the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) are two of the only schools offering them. If you enroll in one of these programs, it can train you to understand the manufacturing and development systems for making fashion accessories. You could also learn how to make shoes, handbags, belts, bridal garments, and hats. With your education, you may qualify for a career as a conceptual, 3-D, prototype, bridal accessory, luggage or eyewear designer. All programs require you to complete general education courses and must be completed on campus.

FIT's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Accessories Design requires students without college credit to first complete an associate's degree program. You can also learn how to design accessory packaging and place zippers. Other courses cover societal impacts on fashion design, working in the fashion industry and fashion history. You can also participate in internships.

What Programs Are Available at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)?

SCAD offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in accessories design. SCAD's bachelor's degree program can take up to four years to complete and requires 180 credit hours.
