Experience with computers is also helpful. Most schools will require you to maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in the classes related to your major.

Can I Earn My Degree Online?

Some colleges offer online materials management B.S. degrees through their distance learning programs. You'll find many of the same courses offered online as you'd find on campus, but you may still want to research any requirements the school may have. For instance, you may still be required to earn a designated number of credit hours on campus.

Online materials management B.S. programs are often degree completion programs. You'll earn an associate's degree first and finish the last two years of a bachelor's degree by transferring into an online program. The option allows you to work in the field while pursuing your B.S. degree.

What Can I Do With My Degree?

A Bachelor of Science in Materials Management program will prepare you for a leadership position in materials or supply chain management by teaching you all aspects of the field, including purchasing, capacity planning, materials management and quality control. As a materials manager, you'll find many career options in public and private organizations. You'll be in a position that requires the knowledge of procuring, distributing and transporting products, while keeping on schedule and maintaining the company's budget.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in the logistics field - which includes materials management - is expected to grow 7% (as fast as average) from 2016-2026. However, different occupations in this category will vary in opportunities and job growth. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, purchasing managers may see job growth of one percent over the same time period (www.bls.gov).
