What Online Degree Options Are There for Criminal Justice Administration?

What Courses Will I Take?

The courses you take give you a broad knowledge of the history and reach of the U.S. justice system. You learn about the roles of judges, law enforcement agents and others within the system. Constitutional law, ethics and codes are discussed in many classes.

You also learn about criminal justice from the criminal's perspective by taking criminology courses that discuss types of crime and characteristics of criminals. Victim's rights topics are also discussed, and you usually take courses in specific areas of the system, such as juvenile justice, crimes against women and white collar crimes.

In some cases, online programs may provide you the opportunity to participate in an internship. These in-person experiences can often be arranged to take place through an agency near your home, or they may be experienced via readings and discussions.

How Do I Learn Online?

Online criminal justice bachelor's degree programs give you the flexibility to choose when and where you study and complete assignments. However, you still need to put in about the same amount of time as you would in a traditional, campus-based program. Many programs simulate the interaction you'd get on campus through required message board discussions with classmates and instructors. Online classroom platforms are common in online degree programs, giving you a way to view your assignments, readings, lectures and discussions in one place.
