What Classes Will I Take?

The courses you'll take in your program will vary by the area of humanities you choose to focus on; for example, you may choose to focus your studies on a concentration area, such as creative writing, women's studies, ethnic studies or English. In some humanities programs, rather than taking required set of major courses, you could work with an advisor to create your own curriculum, one that best suits your academic and career goals. You could also complete a capstone course or internship. Examples of classes you may take include:

  • Cultural communication
  • Greek and Roman mythology
  • American literature
  • World religions
  • Sociology
  • Psychology
  • Fiction and poetry
  • Political science

How Will My Degree Help Me?

You could continue your education by moving on to a master's or doctoral degree program related to the humanities. A humanities degree program is also good preparation for graduate degree programs in other disciplines, such as law and medicine. If you're interested in teaching at the elementary or secondary levels, you could enroll in a post-bachelor's teacher certification program. Alternatively, you can search for employment after earning your degree. Because humanities is such as broad discipline, you'll be able to pursue many different job titles, such as teacher, editor, social work assistant, writer and sales manager.
