In general, business economics programs will teach you how to develop financial forecasts using research data and economic models. Common courses among programs at all degree levels may include financial analysis, management techniques, macroeconomics, microeconomics and organizational behavior. Bachelor's programs require enrollment in general education classes, like English composition or American history.

Completion of a thesis paper is required in most master's programs. In some cases, you may be allowed to complete a final project instead. In order to earn a doctoral degree, you'll need to select a faculty mentor, propose a unique economics research topic and write a dissertation. Most programs expect doctoral candidates to present their findings to a committee of faculty members.

A few schools offer online bachelor's programs in business economics or business administration with an economics concentration. A computer with high-speed Internet access is usually required. In distance learning programs, you'll use an online course delivery system to watch live or pre-recorded lectures, submit assignments and interact with classmates. While most of your courses can be taken online, attendance at some campus-based sessions may be necessary.
