Can I Get a Job With This Degree?

A business degree prepares you for a wide variety of fields, including retail management, banking, healthcare and insurance. The field you pursue may depend upon your specialization.

Because of this, your salary as a graduate also varies. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), insurance sales agents earned a mean annual wage of $63,730 in 2014 (www.bls.gov). The same year, a retail sales supervisor earned a mean annual wage of $42,190. A loan officer earned a mean annual wage of $73,670 for the same period. Looking at a higher paying career field, the mean annual wage for a human resource manager was $114,140 in 2014, also per the BLS.

In most fields, even with a business degree, you won't start out as a manager. Most companies don't hire managers without some professional experience. Depending on the industry you choose, you may need to start with an entry-level position and work your way up; for example, in the retail industry, you might start out as a sales clerk and be promoted to a management position. The good news is that a general business degree prepares you for a variety of fields, which can facilitate job hunting
