What You Need to Know

Employment as a certified nursing assistant or aide (CNA) in Colorado is dependent upon the completion of an approved training program leading to certification. The following programs, all offered by two-year, public schools, meet the state requisites for certificate programs. Admission requirements to CNA certificate programs may include a background check, immunization records, drug screening, physical exam, and/or an education assessment test. In addition to didactic instruction, programs include clinical experiences, giving students hands-on experience in the field, prior to employment.

Schools Offering CNA Training in Colorado

Aims Community College

Consisting of three campuses, Aims Community College offers online courses, day and evening classes and more than 160 certificate and degree programs, including the nurse aide program. This program begins with an orientation, which is offered at convenient times for working individuals. This program will prepare you to take the CNA certification exam. After you complete classroom coursework, you'll complete a 1-week clinical experience at a local long-term care facility.

Lamar Community College

Founded in 1937, Lamar Community College offers a nursing aide program that prepares you to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) certification examination. In addition to classroom instruction in nursing aide skills, you'll complete six 10-hour clinical days at a local healthcare facility to obtain hands-on training. If you don't have a CPR card at the start of the program, it is now being included as part of the class.

Morgan Community College

With five campus locations, Morgan Community College is a learning institute that provides students with various academic options, including the nurse aide program. This program includes a health care skills class that consists of 45 lecture hours and 22.5 lab hours. Additionally, you must complete clinical education, which includes 30 clinical lab hours. Upon completion of this program, you'll be ready to take the NNAAP certification exam.

In addition to the skills course, you'll complete clinical experiences, including an advanced nurse aide clinical, to gain hands-on practice.
