How Do I Learn Online?

Typically, when you enroll in an online degree program you receive access to your school's online learning website. This is usually how you view lecture videos, read notes, submit assignments and receive general information. Discussions are typically required and usually take place on message boards and chats.

Typical online curriculum and instruction master's degree programs don't require specialized equipment. A high-speed Internet connection, computer and basic software are usually all you need. Each school has different requirements, though, and they often provide you with orientation seminars. In some cases, you may be required to attend an on-campus session. You might also need to complete student teaching semesters to earn a teaching license.

What Courses Will I Take?

You gain a deep understanding of curriculum theory, curriculum improvement and instructional methods in a curriculum and instruction master's degree program. You also take courses that discuss classroom diversity and the different ways in which various student populations learn. Curriculum design, evaluation and assessment are also discussed.

In many cases, you are required to complete a culminating project that demonstrates your ability to assess, design and implement curricula. A report or thesis is also often required. You might also need to assemble a portfolio of your work.
