What Courses Will I Take?

At an undergraduate level, students explore the origins of the Bible, church history, missions, evangelism and ways to live life according to the Bible. You may complete an overview of issues involving the church and Christianity, including pluralism and worldviews.

Bachelor's degree programs often require that you first choose a concentration, such as Christian ministry, counseling, organizational leadership or nonprofit management. You'll also take classes that explore the history of the church as well as study methods that include both research and interpretation. You may be required to complete an internship during the third or fourth year of schooling.

In graduate programs, you may complete courses in teaching, writing and an exploration of how Christianity has changed and spread throughout history.

How Do Online Programs Work?

As a distance-learning student, you have deadlines for most assignments--but many classes are asynchronous, which means that you're able to download course materials to study at your convenience. You interact with instructors and other students via e-mail and online discussion boards, often hosted through a content management system like Blackboard. If you need textbooks in addition to lecture materials provided by instructors, you are usually informed of this prior to the start of classes.

To get started, you need a working Internet connection, e-mail account and a word-processing program. You may have to download plug-in applications like Adobe Flash Player or a PDF reader. Schools often suggest that you have a high-speed Internet connection, CD-ROM drive and working speakers or headphones in order to access your multimedia course materials.
