Which Hawaii Schools Offer EMT Training Programs?

Two programs are offered through one Hawaiian school that allow students to study to pass certification exams for EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic licensing. Students are trained in emergency medical techniques and equipment to allow them to quickly and properly respond in urgent situations.

What You Need to Know

There are limited options available to individuals desiring to complete EMT training programs in Hawaii. At least one program is available at basic and the paramedic levels, offered by the same two-year, public community college in Honolulu. The program, leading to a certificate or an associate's degree, can take up to two years to complete, including all prerequisite courses. Applicants to the program must be certified in CPR and first aid.

EMT Certificate Programs in Hawaii

Kapi'olani Community College

Kapi'olani Community College's EMT training program offers a certificate of completion upon graduation from the program. After you finish the program you'll be qualified to take the National Registry Examination for certification as an EMT. Passing this certification clears you for work in an ambulance.

  • Program Name: Emergency Medical Technician Program
  • Program Length: One year, two years with prerequisite courses
  • Tuition and Fees: $3,144 per year for residents; $8,280 per year for non-residents (costs for 2018-2019)
  • Prerequisites: COMPASS reading placement score of 74, COMPASS math 24, related work experience, CPR and first aid certification, driver's license, letters of reference, courses in anatomy, writing and math
  • School Type: Two-year public, with a student population of about 6,900 students (all undergraduate)

EMT Associate's Degree Programs in Hawaii

Kapi'olani Community College

Kapi'olani Community College's mobile intensive care technician (MICT) program prepares students to become paramedics, also known as EMT-Ps. Paramedics are able to offer life support functions, such as intravenous fluids, endotracheal intubation and cardiac monitor defibrillation on scene and while transporting the patient. Upon completion of the program, graduates are qualified to take the EMT-P NREMT examination.

  • Program Name: Associate in Science in Mobile Intensive Care Technician
  • Program Length: A year and a half, two years with prerequisite courses
  • Tuition and Fees: $3,144 per year for residents; $8,280 per year for non-residents (costs for 2018-2019)
  • Prerequisites: courses in writing, math, human growth and EMT training
  • Requirements: CPR and first aid certification
  • School Type: Two-year public, with a student population of about 6,900 students (all undergraduate)

Kapi'olani Community College is the only Hawaiian school offering emergency medical training. You can find EMT-Basic training at the certificate level and EMT-Paramedic training through the associate's program.
