What Courses Can I Expect?

Over the course of your program, you may be required to pass core courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, international finance, business law, financial accounting, real estate, personal finance, and insurance principles. Your program may aim to develop skills in banking, finances, money planning, economics, and management. Before completing your degree program, you may need to complete general education courses in communications, humanities, English composition, mathematics, social sciences, natural sciences, history, and fine arts.

Can I Complete My Program Online?

Although your choices may be limited, you may be able to find schools offering distance education in this field. If you are able to find a distance education program, you can expect field-related courses involving introductory topics. Other than completing your program on campus, you can also find programs allowing you to complete your entire program online or a mixture of both types.

You may also find that most programs can only be completed on campus. These programs can offer cooperative education or internships for extended hands-on training. Working with banks, insurance companies or credit unions are a few examples of hands-on experience through a financial services internship.

What Can I Do With My Education?

With this level of education, there might not be many careers available to you because most jobs in this field require at least a bachelor's degree education. With an associate's degree education, you may only qualify for entry-level careers with business finance companies, banks or brokerage firms. Instead, you may want to continue your education towards a bachelor's degree education. When considering your future, you may find that your program can also transfer credit hours to a related 4-year degree program.
