What Is Covered In Certificate and Non-Degree Programs?
Certificates are designed for you to become a hypnotherapist or a master hypnotherapist. They include both theoretical and practical training at many levels. Classes cover the theories and patterns behind hypnotherapy so you learn how to enter your client's subconscious. You'll also investigate case studies.
Other courses familiarize you with how to deal with client traumas. You'll learn ways to address drug abuse, weight problems, stress and eating disorders with your clients through counseling and hypnotherapy techniques. Handwriting analysis is also a part of some programs, because it's believed to reveal issues clients may be unknowingly dealing with.
Are Online Programs Available?
Some non-degree programs in hypnotherapy allow students to complete training both online and on campus. Of these programs, some are hybrids, which incorporate at-home learning, on-campus requirements and clinical practicums. Classes cover practical hypnotherapy theorems and ways to evaluate your client's personality and psyche through psychological and medical techniques. The programs use discussion forums so you can interact with your classmates. Video lectures and streaming videos allow you to analyze professional techniques.
How Do I Become a Hypnotherapist?
Hypnotherapy isn't regulated by most states, so licensure isn't available for hypnotherapists. Optional certification is available through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists. According to the ASCH, to obtain certification, you must have a graduate degree in a health care-related field. Many certified hypnotherapists have backgrounds in addictions and substance abuse counseling, psychology, mental health counseling, psychiatry or psychiatric nursing. Hypnotherapy training, which is included in some psychology programs, is also required.
