What Can I Expect From a Computer Information Services Program?

In this program, you may learn how to become an expert user of many common computer applications. You can also learn how to provide support for these programs along with standard operating systems, computer networks and hardware. Some programs can teach you how to learn the advanced functions of spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications.

By the end of your education, you may have earned the skills necessary to find a career as a personal computer technician, computer specialist, technical support specialist, workstation technology specialist or local area network administrator. You may need to take courses covering topics in data communications, program design, C++ programming and application programming. Courses in computer concepts, information technology support center, emerging technology and computer security may also be covered.

What Can I Expect From a Library Information Services Program?

Library information services help develop skills working in customer service, information help desk assistance, information processing, literature services and cataloging materials. These programs can also help you develop community library programming, work on a team of librarians, purchase library materials and maintain proper literature circulation. These programs can train you to work in hospital, government, public, academic and school libraries.

This program can train you to work in library acquisitions, circulation maintenance or reference help. You may be required to earn training in children's literature, library media services, library employment, managing collections, resource services, literature classification and leadership management. Some programs can also train you in library budget planning, government document processing, customer service and book repair.
