What Government Certifications Are Available?

The FAI offers three certification tiers for the Federal Acquisition Certification in Contracting (FAC-C) title. All levels of education require you have at least a bachelor's degree education or credit hours in related areas. Each level of certification requires you to complete level-specific legacy, online and on-location courses followed by an exam. To maintain certification, you must complete 80 continuing education points every two years. If you want to advance your career, you can specialize in engineer contracting or earn logistics management certifications.

DAU also offers three levels of certification. To qualify for logistics certification, you need at least one year of experience in logistics. For advanced levels, you need additional years of experience. To be eligible for core standards, you aren't required to complete any level of education. Instead, you need to complete training courses specific to each certification level. To enroll in advanced courses, you may need experience in weapon logistics and additional education.

To qualify for the NCMA Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM) exam, you need to have a bachelor's degree from an accredited program. You may also need to have one year of experience and 80 continuing education hours. To earn recertification, you need to complete 60 continuing education hours every five years.

What Non-Government Certifications Are Available?

The NCMA also offers Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM) and Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) designations. Both require you to at least have a baccalaureate education. To become a CCCM, you need to have a minimum of one year of contract management experience; for the CPCM, you need five years of experience. You also need to complete 80 continuing education hours for the CCCM exam and 120 for the CPCM exam. Every five years, the NCMA requires you to complete 60 continuing education hours to maintain certification.

SOLE offers the Certified Professional Logistician (CPL) and Certified Master Logistician (CML) designations. The education requirements for both are the same. A bachelor-level education must be accompanied by five years of experience, a master-level education needs to accompany four years of education and a doctoral degree graduate must have three years of experience. If you have completed an undergraduate degree in logistics, you may only need to complete one year of logistics experience.

You may also qualify by completing eight years of logistics experience for the CML designation and nine years of logistics experience for the CPL designation. Completing two years of experience in two logistics fields may also be necessary. If you wish you maintain certification through SOLE, you need to complete 50 continuing education points every five years.
