Can I Earn My MBA Online?

Many MBA programs are available fully online; others are offered in a hybrid format, meaning you'll be required to attend some campus-based classes or seminars. These classes typically take place in the summer, on evenings or on weekends. Online courses are delivered using audio and video software applications, so you'll need a computer with Internet access. Schools often store multimedia lesson plans on a private server, allowing you to access learning materials whenever you like. Online learning may be an option if you require flexible scheduling or if you're unable to relocate.

What Do I Need to Start Earning My General Management MBA?

You'll need to earn a bachelor's degree before pursuing an MBA. You won't need to fulfill any prerequisite course requirements, though most schools encourage a strong background in math and science. Many programs ask you to submit two or three letters of recommendation and successfully complete the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Some schools require a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience.

What Jobs Are Available After I Graduate?

There are a number of opportunities for general management MBA graduates in almost any industry. You may find work as a financial analyst who helps businesses make investment decisions, or as a non-profit director who oversees the various functions of an organization. If you've got strong communication skills you could be hired as a public relations manager, guiding a company's relationships with consumers, journalists and local community groups. You might also become a marketing manager who plans and coordinates a company's overall marketing efforts.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the number of employed financial analysts is expected to increase by 5% from 2019 to 2029, while employment opportunities for community service mangers are expected to grow by 17%. Employment of public relations managers and marketing managers will grow by an estimated 9% and 7%, respectively, during the same period (www.bls.gov).
