Marketing and Sales Majors

Learn about bachelor's-level business programs that offer concentrations in marketing. Explore coursework related to marketing and sales, and learn about online program options for this degree. Find out what kind of internship training you'd need to complete as a marketing and sales major.

What Courses Will I Take if I Major in Marketing and Sales?

At the bachelor's degree level, marketing and sales is generally offered as a concentration in a business degree. You'll need to complete a core business curriculum, which includes courses on accounting, business communication, public speaking, business law, ethics and economics. Your sales and marketing concentration will teach you the principles of selling, business sales, sales management, brand identity, market research, advertising and consumer behavior.

In a sales management course, you'll learn how to manage accounts, resources and sales representatives from global, legal and ethical standpoints. A course in basic selling techniques and strategies might take both a theoretical and practical approach to selling products and services. Course topics might include prospecting, sales presentations, closings and consumer demand. A business sales course will teach you how to sell products and services to businesses, as well as covering the differences and similarities between business and consumer sales.

Bachelor's degrees in marketing and sales are available online too. You'll view lectures and text materials online and submit your assignments through your school's website. You'll communicate with your professors and fellow classmates via e-mail and live chat. Virtual libraries and supplemental CD-ROMs might also be at your disposal for any additional help you might need.

What About Practical Training?

Because marketing and sales concentrations are usually found in business programs, your capstone projects and internships will focus primarily on business in general, but they may also include some sales and marketing activities. Some programs will let complete your internship abroad, where you can meet with foreign business leaders and see how international sales and marketing initiatives are structured. The capstone project might include activities related to business communication and ethics, diversity and lifelong learning. You can expect to present your findings in a report, be it oral or written.
