Quite a few organizations offer certification, including American Medical Technologists (AMT). In order to earn AMT's Medical Technologist credential, you'll need to complete an accredited bachelor's program, one year of laboratory experience and a certification exam.

What Is a Medical Lab Technologist?

These professionals examine tissue samples and body fluids for abnormal cellular growth, as well as bacteria and viruses. Lab technologists commonly use microscopes and specialized instruments to perform laboratory tests, the results of which are relayed to doctors or other medical personnel. Technologists are similar to lab technicians; however, technologists often perform more complicated lab procedures, and some have supervisory duties.
