Schools offering Fire & Emergency Services degrees can also be found in these popular choices.

Are There Any Online CPR Instructor Certification Programs?

You are probably not going to find CPR instructor certification programs that can be completed entirely over the Internet; however, there are some programs that include online components. Nearly all of these programs can be completed in one or two days. They are designed for students who are already trained as American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Providers at the BLS level who want to become instructors. Most schools require you to have a BLS Health Care Provider certification card and proof of affiliation with an AHA Training Center before you can enroll in an instructor certification program.

What Are The Online Components of This Program?

Many programs are comprised of two parts: a core instructor course module and a discipline specific module (DSM). In order to participate in the DSM, you must complete the core instructor course in advance. Many schools offer the core instructor course as an online class or on a CD-ROM. If your program offers this part of the program online, you should have a high-speed connection to the Internet and an updated browser, such as Internet Explorer.

What Can I Learn?

The program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to teach other potential BLS providers. You study how to describe the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke, how to define cardiopulmonary arrest and how to describe the specific steps of CPR. You also demonstrate comprehension of AHA policies and the ability to describe them to others. Upon completing the program, you receive AHA certification and become a CPR and BLS instructor.

What Do CPR Instructors Earn?

Many CPR instructors are volunteers that already work in other areas of health care. Many are nurses and emergency medical technicians. However, some organizations--including hospitals, universities or community centers--may seek full-time CPR instructors. According to Indeed.com, full-time CPR and first aid instructors earned an average annual salary of about $45,000 as of March 2016.
