Online Notetaking Tools: FruitNotes Reviewed

Each week, the Education Techie reviews tech tools that can help students and teachers. This week, the Techie is reviewing notetaking tools. Today's review: FruitNotes. Schools offering Paralegal degrees can also be found in these popular choices.

What Is It?

FruitNotes is an online notetaking program that allows users to save text, voice, photo and video notes. Users can access accounts from any computer with an Internet connection, but no mobile apps are currently available. FruitNotes are organized by tags, and users can search notes by these designations or by date range. The most popular tags are displayed in a sidebar, and you can access all your notes from a certain day by using a calendar that is displayed at the top of the screen.

You can share your notes with other users; these people can then respond to notes, and you can respond to comments in turn. The program provides a unique phone number that can allow you to call in and record voice notes. You can also blog your notes if you want them to be public. All features of FruitNotes are available for free. The site's brief explanation of how the program works states that there are no limits on how many notes you can store.

What Are Its Pros and Cons?

The website for FruitNotes features a more basic interface, design and graphic-look than most of the other notetaking programs I looked at for this week. However, I don't think this detracts from the application's capabilities; users still have a range of options in how they record notes. Another aspect of this program that differs from some of the other notetaking applications I reviewed is that it doesn't have much in the way of an introduction. Because the program is fairly straightforward, though, most users should get the hang of using it without much initial hand holding.

Overall, FruitNotes is pretty no-frills when compared to many of the other programs I reviewed. It doesn't have integration with mobile devices or some additional features that are big plusses for other programs. For users that don't need this kind of accessibility, though, I think FruitNotes is a pretty good application. Additionally, the relative lack of bells and whistles can make it easier to use. If you typically don't incorporate a lot of technology into your daily activities, this could be one of better digital notetaking options for you.
