What Will I Study?

The bachelor's degree program introduces you to the field of communications and concentrates on the skills you'll need to work in a community or not-for-profit organization. In general, you'll focus many of your studies on communications in small group, organizational and family settings. You'll study subjects that can better you in the workplace, such as public speaking, communication theory, interpersonal communication, interviewing skills and conflict management.

Master's degree students typically explore problem solving, management and decision-making. You'll also learn about team communication, persuasion techniques, instructional training, research methods and leadership communication.

The doctorate degree program focuses on researching and teaching organizational communications. The curricula may cover finding issues and solutions to negotiations and working with non-governmental agencies. You may also study special topics such as genders and cultures in communications, technology usages, globalizing communication and managing change.

What Can I Do with My Degree?

Organizational communications is needed to promote open dialogue in the community and not-for-profit agencies. With this background you'll be able to work with customers, clients, employees, media and the government to provide press releases, memos, letters and speeches.
