What You Need to Know

Chicago schools that provide training for aspiring paramedics generally award a certificate, though you'll find that one college does offer an associate degree in this field of study. All schools providing paramedic training are community colleges. In these programs, you'll learn how to respond in an emergency situation and administer medical care to sick or injured individuals. A hands-on field experience or internship could be part of your studies. In the associate's degree program, in addition to paramedic or emergency medical technician (EMT) training, you'll also take general education courses such as psychology, biology and communications. You could earn a certificate in 3-5 semesters; the paramedic training portion of the associate degree program can be completed in three semesters. Find out here if basic or more advanced paramedic training would best suit your particular needs.
