All Michigan paramedic programs are offered by two-year, public schools. A certificate may be earned in as little as two semesters or as long as two years. An associate's degree as a paramedic typically requires two years of study. All programs include didactic instruction as well as clinical education. Most certificate programs are offered to individuals already certified as EMTs (emergency medical technicians); the bachelor's degree program in the area includes EMT-Basic training and requires only that applicants complete a physical, provide immunization records, and be insured.

Bay Mills Community College

The paramedic certificate program at Bay Mills Community College will prepare you to take the paramedic certification exam. Through a series of 5 paramedic courses, you'll learn to assess patients and provide advanced emergency care to injured or ill patients. In addition to 16 weeks of clinical rotations, you'll spend around 25 contact hours each week completing a 12-week internship at an out-of-hospital environment. EMT-Basic certification is also included in this program. Upon completion of the program, you'll be ready to take the NREMT exam for paramedics. Macomb also offers a paramedic certificate program that takes 20 months to complete and does not require general education courses.
