An advanced degree in e-business can prepare you to work in the burgeoning field of e-commerce from either the technical or administrative side. Read on to learn more about available programs, online learning options, common prerequisites and possible job titles. Schools offering E-Business Management degrees can also be found in these popular choices.

Are Degrees in E-Business Available at the Ph.D. Level?

Degrees are only available at the master's level. You can earn two types of master's degrees in e-business; a Master of Science (M.S.), and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in e-business. The primary differences between the two degrees is that an MBA is a terminal professional degree, it usually takes longer to complete and programs tend to focus on advanced business techniques. Generally, a M.S. program prepares you for specialized management positions and focuses more on the technology aspects of e-business. Some schools offered these degree programs in conjunction with each other.

Both degrees prepare you to work in electronic commerce by helping you understand e-commerce technologies and online business models. You'll learn fundamental business skills, like accounting, management, sales and project management. You'll also simultaneously learn technological skills, like telecommunications management, global information technology and cyber law.

Is This Degree Offered Online?

Both degrees are offered online. MBA degree programs often require you to participate in collaborative projects, and many distance learning programs will require you to visit campus periodically during the academic year to give presentations, do research and attend lectures.

What Are the Educational Prerequisites?

You'll need at least a bachelor's degree to be considered for admission into either of these programs. Both programs may also require letters of recommendation, standardized test scores and a personal statement. MBA programs usually require work experience as well and may ask you for a resume and professional references.
