Associate's degrees in property management and related areas are offered online, albeit on a fairly limited basis. You can earn an Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degree in business administration or in management with a concentration in property management. Most associate's degree programs will educate you in general property management and real estate concepts like marketing, brokerage, property value appraisal and alternative energy building projects. As a student in an online Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program in property management, you'll receive a multidisciplinary education in all stages of leasing real estate properties, including construction, sales and maintenance. Required course curricula typically cover the business, legal and construction sides of residential and commercial properties. Some institutions offer concentrations in residential or commercial management or in related areas, like affordable housing management.
Required business-related courses cover accounting, marketing, sales, property value appraisal, business ethics and human resource operations. You'll also learn about maintaining leased properties and communicating with lessees through courses in customer service, risk management and facilities maintenance. Other topics covered include building codes, electrical systems and property law. Through electives, you may direct your studies toward particular groups, including elderly and low-income residents.
What Will I Learn in an Online Master's Degree Program?
You can earn an online master's degree in property management or in a related multidisciplinary area, like integrated facilities management. Degrees are generally conferred in Master of Science (M.S.) format and mandate the completion of 35-45 credits for graduation.
Master's degree curricula incorporate core courses in advanced property management concepts, such as asset management, income analysis, environmental forecasting and real estate market research. You'll also take numerous classes in facilities management; topics frequently covered in these courses include property security, facilities management planning, emergency preparedness and building maintenance. Common electives cover building safety, real estate development, urban market economics and military housing.
