Aspiring psychology majors can enroll in one of several 4-year public schools in New Mexico to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. Applicants to these 4-year programs need to have completed a college prep high school curriculum. SAT or ACT scores are required; in some cases, placement test scores can be substituted. General education requirements are common.

The B.S. track requires a psychology lab course and a minor or coursework in math, anthropology, physics, computer science, chemistry and/or biology, while the B.A. requires that you minor in an area other than physics, biology, computer science, chemistry or math.

Western New Mexico University

You can earn either a B.A. in Psychology or a B.S. in Psychology at Western New Mexico University, which is located in a remote area in the Southwestern part of the state. The B.A. option requires you to complete a foreign language requirement, while the B.S. option allows you to select additional courses in math, science and statistics. Both degree options require you to complete at least 128 credits worth of courses. You'll take courses that cover social and behavioral sciences, along with general education topics like rhetoric, science and math.
