What Degrees Are Available?
To be eligible for a job in retail management, you might need an associate's degree in retail management. This is a 2-year course of study that trains you in basic business theory and customer service. This degree program is rarely available in distance-learning formats, but you can find it on many traditional college campuses.
You could also earn a certificate in retail management, which takes less time to complete than an associate's degree program. In either case, you could take the following classes:

Do I Need a Certification?
Retail managers aren't usually required to get certified, but the National Retail Federation Foundation (NRFF) awards certification in retail management to those who successfully pass an online, proctored exam. Your company may arrange the training and exam, but you can pursue the certification on your own. Online training courses are available through the NRFF, and the credential may signal to employers that you're competent in sales, customer service, merchandising, human resources and business finance policies.
What Are the Duties of a Retail Manager?
Retail managers supervise sales workers and oversee the daily operations of retail stores. In this position, you could be responsible for a variety of tasks, including greeting customers and ensuring quality service, monitoring sales activities and tracking sales performance, delegating responsibilities to employees, enforcing safety guidelines and helping sales staff handle difficult sales. You could also be in charge of planning budgets, keeping inventory records, hiring and training new employees, responding to customer complaints or examining merchandise.
Can I Continue My Education?
If you want to learn more about retail management, you could pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a concentration in retail management. This is typically a 4-year course of study; however, some programs will let you transfer credit from your associate's degree or certificate program, allowing you to graduate sooner. Earning a BBA with a concentration in retail management could make you eligible for mid-level management positions.
