What Type of Degree Can I Obtain in Spa Management?

Undergraduate programs are the most common option when seeking spa management training. You could earn an associate's degree in spa management or a bachelor's in spa management, hotel and tourism or resort management, with available classes related to spa management. Most spa management degree programs are part of a school's hospitality and tourism, or business department. Some programs offer an associate's degree in spa management whereas some schools have independent certificate programs in spa and resort management. An internship may be required for some degree programs.

Spa managers oversee the daily operations of the spa. You would be responsible for implementing programs and services, managing the employees and maintaining the budget. You would also monitor all equipment to make sure that it's functioning correctly and also make sure that all safety and hygiene standards are met.

What is the Career Outlook?

In 2018, according to the International Spa Foundation, the spa industry in the United States generated $15.5 billion dollars in revenue. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS), the average annual wage of supervisors of supervisors of personal service workers, which includes spa managers, was $41,710 as of May 2018. The BLS reported in 2015 that California, New York, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania held the highest employment of supervisors in personal services.
