Watch And Learn

YouTube is a great resource for interesting videos about history. We sorted through many of these videos and came up with some top picks. Check out our favorite history videos from YouTube.

Introduction to Ancient Greek History

This video is the first in a series about the history of Ancient Greece from Yale University's YouTube channel. You get to sit in on a series of lectures of Greek history by professor Donald Kagan. These videos are of Dr. Kagan delivering lectures live to students, so it's almost like getting to take a course at Yale yourself.

The History of Nikola Tesla - a Short Story

One of a series of short biographies about historical figures, this video gives an overview of the life and work of Nikola Tesla. It's yet another video that's good for kids and adults both, thanks to animation and a dose of humor. The other videos in this YouTube user's repertoire of biographies, such as Saint Patrick and Che Guevara, are also worth checking out.

History of the Holidays: Halloween

Halloween is fun, but just why do we celebrate it, anyway? This video from the History Channel seeks to give an explanation.

Introduction to World History

A recording of lectures for a world history course from Columbia University, this video lets you virtually 'sit in' on a class from an esteemed educational institution. It's also the first in a series in which lecturer Richard Bulliet guides students through world history from ancient times to the present.

WWII D-day Color Footage

Though color film, both for still and video cameras, wasn't widely available until the 1960s, both early versions of color film and other techniques could be used to produce color images well before then. Still, it is rare to see color pictures and video footage from historical events before the 1960s. But in this video, you get a rare glimpse of World War II in color.

YouTube is a great resource for educational lecture videos from TED as well.
