Auburn University in Auburn, AL

Auburn was tied for 115th among national universities by U.S. News & World Report for 2019. Auburn undergrads can pursue bachelor's degrees in media studies or broadcast journalism. You could take courses in news writing, audio-visual production techniques, popular culture analysis and entertainment law. You might gain practical experience at the university's Eagle Eye television station; at AU Sports Productions, you'll get production assistant experience for national telecasts. As a graduate student in the Department of Communication and Journalism, you'll be able to take courses in radio, TV and film. You'll write a thesis or complete an internship. As a television major, you'll have access to DUTV, the university's fully-equipped cable television station. Possible specializations include news and notification production, comedy and drama production or industry and enterprise. This is a co-op program - students spend at least two terms working in a paid internship.

Graduate students can pursue a master's degree in television management. A dual Master of Science/Master of Business Administration program is also available. Both programs offer internships with broadcast television stations and related media companies. You'll have access to the Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies and the Leonard Pearlstein Business Learning Center. You could earn the following:

University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa

Telecommunication and film majors can choose tracks in media production, electronic reporting, production management, media management, critical studies in film and television or documentaries. Like former students, you might intern with organizations like Viacom, CNN, NBC or ABC. Internship programs are available that focus on either media production or broadcast news. In the graduate program, you might access resources of the Center for Public Television and Radio or WVUA-7, a commercial television station broadcast from UA's Reese Phifer Hall.

The master's program focuses on research and analysis of cinema, television and other electronic media. You'll choose a plan that requires completion of either a master's project or thesis paper.
