What Courses Can I Expect?

Web programming classes can instruct you on various computer programs, including JavaScript, Visual Basic, Dreamweaver and PageMaker. You might need to complete core courses in Web page design, Web page coding, database management, computing systems, digital imaging and software productivity. You may also learn database-related programming in SQL, ASP, Microsoft Access and Oracle. You'll gain hands-on experience managing, administering, implementing and programming website databases. You can receive additional training through internship opportunities.

What Can I Do With My Education?

With your associate's degree, you may be able start an entry-level career as a Web programmer, computer programmer or software developer. You might find employment at a corporation, health care facility, telecommunications company, school or government office. Although you may be able to apply for entry-level positions, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) stated that most employers were more likely to hire programmers who held their bachelor's degrees (www.bls.gov). Completing an internship can also make you a more desirable job candidate.

What Is My Job and Salary Outlook?

The BLS predicted that careers in computer programming would decline seven percent between 2016 and 2026. This decline may be caused by outsourcing, as well as technological advances that have decreased the demand for programming positions. As of May 2018, the BLS reported that computer programmers earned a median salary of $84,280 per year.
