Radiologic Technologist

These professionals follow a physician's requests and operate X-ray machines to take radiographs of a patient's body. They also explain how the X-ray is taken and prepare the subject for the procedure. Safety is the top priority for radiologic technologists because of the radiation involved with the procedure; workers must ensure that all instruments and safety devices are working correctly.

Pediatric Radiographer

Degree holders interested in helping children can become pediatric radiographers, performing many of the same duties as radiologic technologists. Experienced pediatric radiographers also perform fluoroscopies on patients, giving a liquid solution to patients to drink which allows for real-time images of the body to be taken.

Cardiovascular Radiologic Technician

Students in a Bachelor of Science degree program in radiology may specialize in cardiovascular radiologic technology. These technicians use radiography to test and study a patient's heart to determine the health and condition of the organ. Electrocardiograms are also used, since doctors need a 3-D image of the patient's heart. Administrative duties, such as chart filing, scheduling and updating files, also come with this position.

Cardiovascular radiologic technicians may choose to specialize in echocardiography, vascular technology or invasive cardiology. Potential employers that hire cardiovascular radiologic technicians include private health practices, diagnostic imaging centers and hospitals cardiology departments.
