What You Need to Know

Two schools offer several programs in hospitality management near Indianapolis. Both schools are public: Ivy Tech is a community college and Indiana University - Purdue University is a four-year school. Students interested in earning an associate's degree may choose between a degree designed to prepare you to work immediately upon graduation and another to prepare you for transfer to a four-year program. Students who would prefer to not take general education classes may earn a certificate in hospitality administration.

A bachelor's degree and a master's degree are offered by a local four-year university; students must earn a bachelor's degree in a related field to be considered for the master's program in event tourism. The baccalaureate program includes an internship. An accelerated program is available, as well, allowing qualifying students to graduate in as little as three years. The master's degree program requires the completion of 44 credit hours and includes a master's thesis prior to graduation.

Hospitality Management Associate's Degree Programs in Indianapolis, Indiana

Ivy Tech Community College - Central Indiana

At the Central Indiana campus of Ivy Tech Community College, you can earn an AS or AAS degree in hospitality administration. The AAS program requires 64 credits and prepares you for immediate employment; the AS curriculum includes 60 credits of coursework that prepares you to transfer to a 4-year university.

Both programs include support courses in areas such as management, financial accounting, and organizational behavior. Other courses include special events, travel, and dietary management, as well as topics in catering administration, culinology, hotel front office, marketing, and operations management. In lieu of an associate's degree, Ivy Tech Community College also a short-term certificate program in hospitality administration.
