What You Need to Know

The East Coast of the U.S. is home to the 'Ivy League', a historic group of educational institutions (Yale, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, and Brown), which have mutual interests in athletics and scholarship. The 'Ivy League' universities all ranked within the top 20 on the U.S. News and World Report's list of top national universities for 2013. They also ranked within the top 55 on the Forbes' list of top American colleges for 2012. These schools are all research-based, private institutions with coed student populations.

According to the U.S. News and World Report in 2012, the Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Yale University, and the University of Pennsylvania all had yields greater that 60%. This means that more than six out of every ten students who were accepted into one of these universities decided to enroll there in their first year, making these institutions among the most popular universities on the East Coast. All these schools offer both graduate and undergraduate degree programs in a wide variety of fields through their internal schools of business, arts and sciences, engineering, law, and health, among others.
