Master of Education

A Master of Education (Ed.M.) program introduces students to topics such as classroom leadership and educational policy. Because Ed.M. students may pursue scholarly research or teaching careers, most programs allow students to concentrate their studies on either theoretical aspects of education or on the acquisition of practical classroom skills. Students can choose to specialize in the particular concentration or area of education that interests them.

Doctoral Degrees in Education

Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Ph.D.) programs place great emphasis on research and prepare students for leadership positions in secondary schools or teaching careers at the collegiate level. Students who pursue a doctorate are usually required to complete a certain number of hours of coursework along with an original dissertation on a topic of interest and defend the dissertation in front of an academic board.
