EMT Training Programs in the Seattle Area

North Seattle College

North Seattle College's program is designed to prepare you to take the NREMT certification exam and earn Washington State Emergency Medical Services certification. This program is also approved by the NREMT, which means that, after graduation, you may qualify for out-of-state certification. In the program, in addition to classroom training, you complete ten hours of observation at a local emergency room.

  • Program Length: Three months, full time
  • Prerequisites: Pass first aid exam, valid driver's license, CPR certification and ability to lift 200 pounds
  • Tuition: In-state, $4,461 per academic year (2018-2019)

Tacoma Community College

The curriculum of the college's EMT-Basic program meets guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Washington Department of Health. This program teaches you about the basics of providing life support and transporting ill or injured patients. To earn your EMT-Paramedic certification, you complete 65 credit hours of study. Courses in the program cover topics like human biology and medical terminology. You also complete several clinical and lab courses. To earn your associate's degree, you complete the 65 credits required for the EMT-Paramedic certificate as well as 42 credits in general education coursework. Required general education courses include public speaking, logic and management of organizational systems.

  • Program Name: EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, Associate of Applied Science in Paramedicine
  • Prerequisites: Driver's license, current CPR card, EMT-Paramedic program also requires EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate certification and at least 1 year of ambulance ride time
  • Program Length: EMT-Basic: One quarter; EMT-Paramedic certificate: One year; Paramedic associate degree: Two years
  • Tuition: In-state, $4,276 per academic year; out-of-state, $9,706 per academic year (2018-2019)
  • School Type: 2-year, public; approximately 6,200 students (all undergraduates)
