What You Need to Know

You can find undergraduate programs in the Baltimore area through 2- and 4-year colleges and universities. Associate's degree programs offer hospitality-related internships as a part of your curriculum. These programs can be completed in two years' time.

Bachelor's degree programs are 4-year programs, and your coursework may include or require an internship. Some programs offer choices in how you focus your coursework. For example, you can concentrate in lodging management or tourism. While there aren't any licensure requirements for hospitality managers, you can choose to earn voluntary certification within foodservice management through Baltimore County's Department of Environmental Health Services.

Community College of Baltimore County

This associate degree program provides an overview of hospitality management, marketing, safety and technology. The lodging management option covers front office, housekeeping, dining room and beverage management, as well as food production. If you choose the tourism management option, you'll study accounting, transportation systems, travel agencies and international visitor servicing. In addition to accounting and entrepreneurship courses, the hospitality entrepreneurship option covers beverage, dining room and franchise management. You'll also complete a 400-hour internship as part of the core requirements.
