What You Need to Know

There are several public colleges and universities in New Jersey that have nursing schools. Regardless of degree level, most nursing programs require that you take lecture-based classes, complete lab sessions and participate in clinical training.

You can earn an associate's degree in nursing with two years of full-time study. Admission to the program may require a sufficient GPA in prerequisite coursework. While the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program typically takes four years, applicants with RN licensure and an associate's degree or non-nurses with a previous bachelor's degree in another field may be eligible for an accelerated track.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs can be completed in about a year and a half of full-time study or three years of part-time study. These programs are open to RNs with a bachelor's degree and standardized test scores; other requirements may include an interview, resume, recommendations and CPR certification.
