At Chicago State University, licensed registered nurses with a BSN can earn an MSN in two years. Students can specialize in community health, nursing education, or nursing administration, with each track emphasizing nursing foundations, research, health promotion, and healthcare ethics.

DePaul University

DePaul University offers an online MSN program to those who have a BSN, which can be specialized in nurse educator, nurse administrator, adult-gerontology nurse practitioner or family nurse practitioner; students who complete the nurse administrator or nurse educator track will also earn a certificate in health professions education or health administration through Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Applicants who aren't currently licensed at a registered nurse may need to completed more courses, while RNs can complete the MSN program in as little as two years.

Loyola University, Chicago

Registered nurses who have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing can earn an MSN through the Loyola University Chicago if they have at least 2,000 hours of clinical experience related to their desired concentration. Students can specialize their MSN program in one of the following areas: women's health nurse practitioner, adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, adult-gerontology acute care clinical nurse specialist, adult gerontology clinical nurse specialist, infection prevention, or nursing and healthcare administration.

North Park University

At North Park University, registered nurses can advance their careers and skillset by earning a Master of Science in Nursing through a hybrid program. Students can choose the 54-credit hour adult-gerontology primary care advanced practice nursing track, the 62-semester hour advanced practice family nursing track, or the 37-hour leadership and management track which allows students to take an additional 24 credit hours and earn an MBA along with their MSN.

Resurrection University

Licensed nurses with a BSN and an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 may qualify to enter the MSN program at Resurrection University. Students can focus their curriculum in nurse educator, which takes around three years and prepares graduates for teaching and mentoring positions, or students may choose to complete a more practice-focused curriculum over two and a half years specializing in adult gerontology nurse practitioner or family health nurse practitioner.

Rush University

Rush University has an online MSN program with a clinical nurse leader concentration available to BSN graduates with or without RN licensure. Applicants who have a valid RN license can complete the MSN program part-time in two years, while applicants who haven't yet been certified as an RN may need to completed additional clinical practice.

Saint Xavier University

The University of Illinois at Chicago offers a hybrid MSN program that can be completed in one to two years with as few as 34 credit hours required. By default, the program focus is on advanced generalist master of science to prepare nurses for complex situations and administrative roles, but students may choose to add some required hours and gain a focus area of either women's health or clinical nurse leader.

Admission Requirements for BSN to MSN Programs in Chicago, Illinois

In addition to having a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, many programs will require applicants to have worked for a certain amount of time as registered nurses, with some schools requiring that experience to be in the MSN concentration area. Some schools may require applicants to have completed a GRE or GMAT, but some waive this requirement with a sufficient GPA. Applicants will typically need to have a certain GPA for admissions, such as 3.0 or 3.2, as well as professional references and immunizations. BSN to MSN programs may take students one to three years to complete and involve clinical practice requirements.
