This program is typically completed in three years and students will need to complete a research-based thesis before they are able to graduate.

University of California - Santa Cruz

Earning a Master of Arts in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology can be done in around two years by taking classes like scientific skills and organismal biology from the University of California in Santa Cruz. Students are required to take a minimum of 15 units of coursework per semester that they are enrolled, and there is also a thesis requirement that must be met as well.

San Francisco State University

San Francisco State University offers a master of science degree program in ecology, evolution, and conservation biology that requires students to complete a thesis before graduation. This program can be completed in around two years, though it may take longer, and requires students to earn a minimum of 30 units of coursework before the completion of the program.

University of California - Davis

There are two different plans that students can choose from to earn their master's degree in ecology from the University of California in Davis. The first is the thesis plan that requires students to complete a total of 30 units of coursework and to complete and present their thesis, and the second option is the comprehensive exam plan that requires a total of 36 units of coursework but does not require a thesis.

California State University - Sacramento

The California State University of Sacramento also requires students to complete a thesis and maintain a GPA of 3.0 to be able to graduate with their degree.

University of California - Santa Barbara

The University of California in Santa Barbara offers two different plans for students working to earn their master of arts degree in ecology, evolution, and marine biology. The first option is the thesis plan that requires students to complete a total of 30 units of coursework, 20 of which need to be in the 200 and 500 series classes, and the second option is the comprehensive exam plan that requires a total of 36 units of coursework.

University of California - Los Angeles

The University of California in Los Angeles offers a mater's degree program in biology with a specialization in ecology and evolution of medicine that can be completed in as little as 6 quarters of coursework. There are two different plans available, the capstone plan and the thesis plan, though they both require students to accumulate a total of 36 units of coursework before graduation.

California State University - Stanislaus

In two years, students can earn their Master of Science in Ecology and Sustainability degree with a concentration in either ecological conservation or ecological economics. California State University at Stanislaus requires students in this program to complete a thesis and earn between 36 and 37 units of coursework.
