Master's in Educational Leadership in Illinois
Several schools throughout Illinois have educational leadership master's degree programs that prepare graduates for administrative positions in education. Students may also be able to choose a specialization area within their program.
Aurora University has a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership that enables graduates to earn a principal endorsement for the professional educator license (PEL). The program can be completed in two years and consists of 36 credit hours with courses in areas such as fiscal management, educational leadership, and technology for school administrators.
Students can earn a Master of Arts in Leadership with a concentration in educational administration at Bradley University. Students will complete 36 credit hours of curriculum and a 2-semester internship working with an educational mentor.
Concordia University - Chicago
At Concordia University, students can pursue several master's degrees with educational leadership. Students can earn a Master of Arts in Education Technology with a leadership concentration (30 credit hours), a Master of Arts in Educational Administration (30 credit hours), a Master of Arts in Principal Preparation (33 credit hours), a Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership (30 credit hours), a Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership with an endorsement (24 credit hours), or a Master of Arts in Leadership with a concentration in higher education (33 credit hours).
Students can earn either a Master of Arts (MA) or a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational leadership at DePaul University via online or on-site courses. The MEd program consists of 48 to 52 quarter hours and can be concentrated in higher education, principal license, Catholic leadership, Catholic principal license, general educational leadership, teacher leader, or Catholic teacher leader; the MA program consists of 52 quarter hours and can be concentrated in physical education, higher education, general educational leadership, or catholic leadership.
Lewis University has a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership with a teacher leader endorsement program that consists of 31 credit hours, as well as a Master of Education in Educational Leadership with a principal endorsement (33 credit hours) with an optional endorsement in director of special education (8 additional credit hours). Students can also pursue a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in higher education/student services.
Loyola University Chicago
At Loyola University Chicago, students can pursue a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision for School Leaders with or without a principal endorsement. The program consists of 33 credit hours, two internships, and can be completed in two years.
The Master of Arts in Education in Educational Administration and Leadership at McKendree University consists of 32 credit hours with courses that cover curriculum design, issues in education, and principal preparation. McKendree also offers a 32-credit-hour Master of Arts in Education in Teacher Leadership Licensure program that prepares graduates for roles such as department chair, dean, and curriculum leader.
National Louis University
National Louis University has a Master of Education in Educational Leadership program that prepares graduates for licensure as principals through an internship and 34 credit hours of coursework. Students can also pursue a Master of Education in Teacher Leadership (33 credit hours) or a Master of Education in Early Childhood Administration (34 credit hours).
North Central College
Students at North Central College can earn a Master of Education in Educational Leadership through a hybrid curriculum that prepares graduates for licensure as principals. The program consists of 36 credit hours composed of four-hour courses and a one-year internship in a school setting.
