Ball State University

The Master of Social Work programs at Ball State University have an advanced generalist concentration with coursework in health, gerontology, and addictions. Standard MSW students complete 57 credit hours in as few as two years, and advanced standing students can complete the required 36 credit hours in as little as one year.

Indiana State University

Indiana State University has a Master of Social Work program that can be completed in two years of full-time study or four years of part-time study (60 credit hours) as well as an advanced standing program that can be completed with 37 credit hours. The program has a concentration in clinical rural social work practice and features courses in psychopathology, rural social work, policy, and research.

Indiana University - Bloomington

Students can earn a Master of Social Work at Indiana University - Bloomington with one of five MSW concentrations, including mental health & addictions, health, and school social work. The program consists of 56 credit hours (or 37 credit hours for advanced standing students) and can be completed in one to four years.

Indiana University - East

Indiana University - East has a 56-credit-hour Master of Social Work program that can be completed in three years (part-time) or in two years for those who qualify for advanced standing status (37 credit hours). The Master of Social Work program at Indiana University - Purdue University - Indianapolis offers five concentration options, such as school social work and community & organizational leadership, to better prepare students for their career objectives. Traditional students can complete the program in as few as two years, and advanced standing students can finish in as little as one year. IUPUI also offers MSW dual degrees in law and public health.

Indiana Wesleyan University - National & Global

Indiana Wesleyan University has three cohort Master of Social Work programs that progress in a specific order, enabling students to progress in groups. Students can choose from the 33-month or 24-month standard tracks (60 credit hours) or the 16-month advanced standing track (30 credit hours); all programs have a generalist/clinical focus.

University of Indianapolis

The University of Indianapolis offers a two-year regular standing MSW program (60 credit hours) as well as a one-year advanced standing program (33 credit hours). Both programs feature on-campus and hybrid coursework, field practicum experiences, and concentration options of behavioral health and families & children.

University of Southern Indiana

The Master of Social Work program at the University of Southern Indiana has an advanced generalist focus and can be completed through full-time or part-time study. Students are required to complete 61 credit hours (36 credit hours for advanced standing) and can also purse a dual degree in public administration (24 additional credit hours).

Admittance Requirements for Master of Social Work Programs in Indiana

All master's degree programs in social work offered in Indiana require students to have a bachelor's degree, and most require students to have a specific undergraduate GPA, such as a 3.0. Students who have a bachelor's degree in social work, such as a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), can enter advanced standing tracks at most schools (bypassing foundational courses). Students may also be required to have relevant work experience and/or certain prerequisite courses, which may include statistics, anatomy, and psychology. Other requirements may include letters of recommendation, a graduate entrance exam (such as the GRE), and a personal statement of goals.
